Public Awareness Campaign Held at Pallisa Chief Magistrate's Court

This morning, court users at Pallisa Chief Magistrate's Court were taken through a sensitization campaign aimed at educating the public about Judiciary innovations, court processes and services.
The Chief Magistrate, HW Lydia Kambedha, who led the sensitization, encouraged court users to embrace Mediation in settlement of disputes noting that it promotes building of relationships, and peace in communities.
The sensitization session was attended by Magistrate Grade HW Karim Kyembe, lawyers and other officials in the justice delivery chain.
HW Kambendha informed court users that the Court currently has three Mediators who are readily available to help them listen and mediate their civil disputes.
For criminal matters, HW Kambedha urged accused persons who committed offices they are accused of to embrace Plea Bargaining. She noted that this is a participatory procedure for all parties and saves time.
She also cautioned the court users to be vigilant and avoid being misled by different justice actors including lawyers.
The Chief Magistrate thanked the Judiciary for assigning an additional Judicial Officer to Pallisa, bringing the total to three, which has also made work easier at the station.
She also noted that the Court runs an open door policy.
As part of the sensitization efforts, different Information, Education and Communication materials on bail and its refund, trial process in the magistrates' courts, among others were distributed to the courts users.
The sensitization was also moderated by Ms. Rose Ampurira, Communications Officer.
